I'm still working my way through this deeply challenging book on faith. Sometimes a chapter at a time; sometimes just a few pages. The author's own experiences make the insights of his book so very real and powerful.
I wouldn't and couldn't have understood this book as a younger person or new believer. Only after you've been in the fire of delayed answers--and doubts about your God--can you truly appreciate it.
It has encouraged me to renew my prayers for situations and circumstances I'd come to accept as "the way things are" or regards as "my thorn in the flesh" or ...
This profoundly impacting book by Bob Sorge has completely turned my "thinking" upside down... or should I say, right side up! I have taken my time in reading this gem. There is entirely too much "meat" for a quick read... therefore, a book review is quite difficult to complete. Suffice it to say, if you find yourself in a season of "waiting," if your dreams are unrealized, if you're struggling to understand WHY our Father intentionally walks us through times of waiting... then this book will provide enlightenment, encouragement and a stirring up of your faith. Seasons of waiting are for our good, to prepare us for what's ahead, to make us strong, and to press us into HIM. What the "waiting" produces in us far outweighs the pain of crying out. My spirit says "Yes!"
This is a no nonsense book that will help those who are waiting on a miracle continue to wait in hope but it also will keep their feet in the redemptive reality of suffering while they are looking for their delayed answer. I have given this book as a recommendation to many who are going through a very troubled time. As a result of this book I bought other books by this author. None of them have been duds.
This author has gone through his own fire. He is coming out pure gold through his suffering and waiting. Thanks Bob.
Our home group has been meeting for over 7 years, and we don't just drink coffee and eat. WE STUDY! This book is so encouraging because it addresses situations and thoughts that we ALL have or will encounter. We are using it to encourage everyone in the group to be transparent and to share what God has taught them through the years about praying, waiting and learning. We have been using the book for the last 3 weekly meetings and are only half way through the 1st chapter because of the discussion and prayer sessions developing as we pray. If you want maturity in your prayer life, THIS BOOK WILL HELP YOU!!
This book is a must have for Christians in the midst of tests, trials and spiritual warfare. I've read a number of Christian books about prayer, intercession and tribulations. Most tend to be rather shallow. But never have I read a book that hits at the very heart of "deep calling unto deep" spiritual warfare in the midst of personal difficulties like Bob Sorge's The Fire of Delayed Answers. This book provides a very mature analysis and solution for Christians going through those extremely difficult experiences in life, whether those trials are relational, physical, financial, spiritual or any combination thereof. You won't be disappointed by this book. This book goes way beyond 'spiritual grade school' and instead takes the reader to 'spiritual graduate school'. As I mentioned previously, this book is "deep calling unto deep". Highly recommended.
If, like me, you're in that place of waiting for God... wondering why He "isn't coming through"... feeling like you've been abandoned/passed over, do yourself a favor READ THIS BOOK. I can't tell you the depth of Spirit-birth encouragement and growth I've seen from prayerfully reading through The Fire of Delayed Answers. It's lifesaving. It's convicting. It's enlightening. It's solid. And, most importantly, it imparts understanding into the heart and mind of a God who DOES love you and IS going to answer.
Before you decide to quit, read this. And pastors/people in ministry, please sit down with this book, too. It will give you insight and patience into how to pray with and for those who are going through long, hard seasons of waiting on God to move or answer.
